Designing 3D images, material boards and client presentations.
Helming the design of a project in tandem with the main lead.

Skills Required:

High artistic creativity, spatial visualization and parametric modeling.
Knowledge of 3D rendering and digital presentation software.
Excellent understanding of the history of design, materials and formulation of form.

For Example: The Design Architect develops the initial building envelope concepts, spatial flow diagrams and daylighting studies that shape the visitor experience for a new museum project.

Who is a Site Architect? (On-Ground Role)

A senior site architect works directly on the construction site and acts as a link between the design team and the construction contractor.

The primary duties of a Site Architect:

Regular field inspections to ensure construction is in accordance with approved drawings.
Real-time response to Requests for Information (RFIs) by contractors.
Inspecting material samples, mockups and submittals on-site.

Skills Required:

In-depth knowledge of construction techniques, construction details and safety rules.
Quick decision-making and conflict resolution on-site.
Stricter field verification and technical documentation.

For Example: When steel framing arrives on site in conflict with plumbing risers, the senior site architect reviews the physical conflict in the field and provides an updated field detail to ensure trade workers are working safely.

What is a BIM Manager? (Digital Coordination Role)

A BIM manager is responsible for the digital architecture framework, which is responsible for managing 3D information modeling systems in the design ecosystem.

The main functions of a BIM Manager:

Implementing and maintaining building information modeling standards in the firm’s projects.
Carrying out digital clash detection between architectural, MEP and structural models.
Training staff and optimizing project workflows inside digital modeling software.

Skills Required:

High-level proficiency in BIM software, parametric modeling and cloud collaboration.
Advanced systems analysis and digital database management.
Excellent cross-departmental communication and technical skills.

For Example: The BIM manager can perform automated clash detection scans of architectural and mechanical models before the construction of a hospital begins, identifying ductwork that is colliding with structural beams in virtual space, well before the errors are discovered in the field.

What is a Landscape Architect? (Outdoor Design Role)

A Landscape Architect creates functional and sustainable outdoor environments, combining natural systems with built environments.

The main duties of a Landscape Architect:

Creating site master plans, grading plans and planting schedules.
Controls stormwater drainage, environmental conservation and hardscape design.
Compliance with the local zoning and environmental policies in the development of outdoor sites.

Skills Required:

Environmental science, botany, and land contour analysis.
Knowledge of site engineering and sustainable drainage in the outdoors.
Ability to use landscape drafting and spatial design tools.

For Example: In an urban housing complex, the Landscape Architect designs permeable rain gardens and native plantings to capture excess stormwater runoff, and provides green space for the residents that is accessible.

How these roles work together.

Architecture is a team game, and every member of the team has a specific area of expertise to contribute to the team’s building vision:

Role	Primary Phase Focus	Core Mandate
Principal Architect	Business Development & Initiation	The vision, contract signing and firm leadership.
Design Architect	Concept & Schematic Design	The use of spatial aesthetics, 3D modeling, and artistic form.
Project Architect	Design Development & Documentation	Technical execution, drawing coordination and code compliance.
BIM Manager	Concurrent Digital Production	Digital Model Integrity, Automated clash detection
